Fourth Day

We arrived at Jon and Loanna's about 3 pm. Loanna has explained all the things they did to the kitchen and opening up the space behind the kitchen.

Yesterday we drove from Coos Bay to Vancover. This was a slow trip because Lincoln City has spread itself along the highway about 10 miles, all at 30 mph. During that length we also experienced three construction zones that had one way traffic with flaggers. The other problem was that a driver at the front of the line evidently thought that if the speed limit was 30, 20 would be safer. Of course this was the car at the front of the line when we did get to go. So that part of the trip took a long time. Then driving from the coast to Portland also was slow because the towns have spread out to where they are almost touching each other. We drove through Portland at about 3 PM so we could use the diamond (or parallelagram) lane. It was pretty much bumper to bumper but it was moving.

Shirley and Ken made a very nice dinner for us. It included bbqed pork loin, with two different chutnies and a green salad, fresh artisen bread, and mango ice cream with fresh mangos and blue berries.

We had a evening of remembering some of the good times we have had in the past and plan for the time we will be together at the end of July. Paul, I did get a picture of Jana and her dog, Roxie.

We left their house and went back to Portland. I was hoping to buy a polarizing filter for my camera at CameraWorld. They did not have it so that ended up being a 2 hr waste of time. This time though is was 11 am and not much traffic so it went pretty fast.

After so much freeway we decided on a more scenic route from Olympia to Seabeck and went the Peninsula direction through Shelton, instead of the freeway to Tacoma and the bridge then to the peninsula. That was a pleasant drive.

After some good visiting, we enjoyed a beautiful dinner with artichoke starters with a balsamic dressing. Next we were treated to a fresh from Loanna's garden green salad (lettuce, asparagus and tomatoes), with fresh whole grain bread. The entree was a Kenyan Peanut Soup (or stew). It was wonderful and served over brown rice. For the ultimate local treat, rhubard from the garden was made into a crisp topped with vanilla ice cream. UMMMM!

Tomorrow we plan to go into Seattle to Pikes Market, on our way to the River at Cle Elum. There we will meet John and Sarah, Josh and Jordan, Marcus and Amanda, Hunter and Austin. On Sunday we will all go back to Seattle for the Mariners game.
