We decided to get up very early before breakfast and go get the early morning picture of Yaquina Head Light House. Good plan. Then we came back to the Inn at Yaquina Bay and packed up and drove to Heceta Head to get a picture of the Light House in the early light. It was good that we took the beach last night because it was nothing this morning.
By 11:30 we were at North Beach/Coos Bay for a retake of the Cape Arago Light House and the fabulous beach (that we took in the evening last Wednesday). This time it was not windy or cold and quite pleasant. We took the scenic route across that Cape back to the 101.
After another stop at the Coquille River Light House on a river instead of the ocean, we headed for Bandon. We had not had time to stop here on the way North last week. We enjoyed lunch at a Fish and Chips place on the wharf, and wandering around the Old Town sampling candy at the Cranberry Sweets place and coffee at Koffee and Kites. Then we drove along the Beach Loop where all the fancy beach houses and vacation rentals are located. Lots were empty or up for sale.
The next stop was Cape Blanco, the westernmost point in Oregon. We drove all the way out to the point and arrived just as they locked the gate to the lighthouse road. We walked out on the bluff and took a good picture with the telephoto lens. We found a great place to camp on our way back to 101. It was Cape Blanco State Park. Each site was divided by thick lush bushes and flowers and it was beautiful. It is close to the ocean beach and tidepools; close to a river; has lots of wild iris, foxglove, Queen Anne's lace, lupine, and primrose flowers. There is a famous old Hughes House B and B, and it is close to the interesting town of Bandon.
We decided we would try to drive as far as we could today so kept driving to Crescent City. We did get fuel in Brookings first because it was $.30 a gallon cheaper than Calif. We found a reasonable place for night that had internet (since we didn't have any last night) and will head for Ferndale tomorrow.
